Aaron Walsh[4][5], best known by his YouTube username socool775, is a longtime personality in The Weather Channel fandom based out of Lansing, Michigan, having been part of the community since at least 2008. Walsh is best known for his local forecast recordings in Michigan and surrounding regions, but in more recent times, much of his content has revolved around driving, especially in severe weather and thunderstorms. He was the original creator and owner of what is today TWCJim's STAR Database, leading a continued effort to document Weather Star units around the country based on user submissions from 2010 to 2013.
History
Walsh joined the TWC Today forums on August 15, 2008[6], as socool375. This name also was the name of his original YouTube account that existed around the same time.[7] It is unknown when his original YouTube account was created. He created his current YouTube account on February 12, 2009[8], after the previous account was suspended, likely due to music-related copyright actions against the channel[9][10]. He would eventually also change his username on TWC Today to socool775 and later changed it again to wxntrafficfan, reflecting his interest both in weather and road-related topics. Much of his YouTube content around this time reflected a desire to document Weather Stars around his area, a desire further reflected by his creation of his STAR Database around January 2010.[11] The database was meant to continue a collaborative STAR database project by members of TWC Today that was abandoned circa 2008. Walsh would continue this effort by accepting user submissions of Weather Star units to his database. He would hold ownership of the database until 2013, when his hosting provider, ZoomShare, announced the end of its free hosting services. Cost concerns related to the hosting plans prompted Walsh to ask TWCJim to take over the project.[12] Since that time, Walsh has continued to upload videos to his YouTube channel but has become inactive on community forums.
