Adam Berg is a former on-camera meteorologist for The Weather Channel who currently works as the weekday morning on-camera meteorologist at WTVJ-TV in Miami, Florida.

Early life and education

Born in Canada to American parents, Berg lived in Vancouver for the first seven years of his life.[1] His family would then move to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where his interest in the field of broadcast meteorology developed as he watched his local television meteorologists.[1] Another primary factor in his growing love for weather was the snowfall in Tennessee and its effect on everyday life. Berg once stated, "The thing I noticed about Chattanooga (and the rest of the south really) is that snow shuts everything down. Having spent my early years in Canada, this was new to me. I would start watching the weather, all the while wishing for a little snow. Snow days are a kid's dream. So, I kept watching and eventually decided that I wanted to be the person with the inside information. The rest is history."[2]

Berg would go on to study at Pennsylvania State University, graduating there in December 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology.[1][3] Prior to his career as a meteorologist, Berg worked as a lifeguard, pizza delivery driver, and a waiter.[2]

Career

Berg's first career was with The Weather Network in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, which at the time was partially owned by Landmark Communications, the parent company of The Weather Channel (TWC) in the United States. There, his primary roles were as a forecaster and weather briefer for on-air personalities.[1][3] Berg moved to Atlanta, Georgia, joining The Weather Channel in 1999 as a forecaster behind the scenes.[3][1][4] In 2003[4], through TWC's apprenticeship program, Berg began appearing on Overnight Outlook on Saturdays as an on-camera meteorologist and also later began contributing on-camera forecasts for weather.com.[3] Around 2010, Berg served as the host of Impact TV, a short-lived TWC long-form program.[5][6] Berg hosted Evening Edition until November 2010[2] and PM Edition from that time until he was laid off from TWC in 2012.[7] His last day on TWC was October 11, 2012.[4][8] Berg would be seen on CNN at least once as a broadcast meteorologist in early 2013[9] before former TWC OCM Nicole Mitchell revealed in a Facebook post that he would be moving to the Miami, Florida market[9], joining its NBC affiliate WTVJ-TV as the station's weekday morning on-air meteorologist in March 2013.[1]

Personal life

Berg has referenced a brother and sister on the air while on The Weather Channel.[10]

Berg has stated that out of any aspect of his job, he enjoys the thrill of being a live broadcast meteorologist the most, and that thunderstorms are his favorite type of weather, followed by snow. Outside of work, he enjoys physical exercise, tennis, and the Madden video game series.[2]

On March 31, 2009, Berg joined the TWC Today forums[11] and was quickly greeted by forum members starting the same day.[12] Nonetheless, he has not made any known posts to the forums.
