The Weather Channel en Español is a free, ad-supported streaming television channel owned by Weather Group, a subsidiary of Allen Media Group. Launched on May 2nd, 2022, The Weather Channel en Español broadcasts weather forecasts and weather news in Spanish for the United States and its territories, and Latin America. It is available on the Weather Channel streaming app, Local Now, Roku Channel, Youtube TV, Hulu+ Live TV, Redbox, Verizon Fios, ViX, FuboTV, Xumo Play, Plex, FreeCast, Canela.TV and the Audacy app.

History

The channel was announced in February 2019, intended to launch in early 2020. The channel planned to feature Spanish-speaking reporters and hosts, with content focusing on the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Central America.[1] In August 2021, Entertainment Studios hired Sussy Ruiz as the channel's editor-in-chief.[2] In January 2022, the channel hired Jessica Fernandez and Milmar Ramirez as its first known on-camera meteorologists.[3][4]

In December 2021, Weather Group launched Conexión con el Tiempo, a social media service on Twitter aimed at covering the latest weather news for the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean. The service produces short form news stories similar to Pattrn, Weather Group’s climate-focused service.[5]

In February 2022, Byron Allen stated that the channel would launch in April.[6] Later that month, Glasgow EPB's customer information page on negotiations between the Allen Media Group (AMG) and the National Cable Television Cooperative indicated that AMG was seeking cable carriage of The Weather Channel en Español, which ultimately did not come to pass.[7] The channel launched at 7:00 a.m. Eastern Time on May 2, 2022, coinciding with The Weather Channel's 40th anniversary.

On October 18th, 2023, this Spanish counterpart of The Weather Channel was added onto ViX, a streaming service owned by TelevisaUnivision, in the United States. The Weather Channel en Español is now available on channel 105 on the streaming service.[8]

Programming

The Weather Channel en Español broadcasts live and recorded forecast segments for the United States and its territories, as well as forecast segments for Latin American countries throughout the day. The forecast segments are a mix of segments presented by on-camera meteorologists and a loop of weather maps showing current and forecasted weather conditions for Texas, California, the Midwest, the Pacific Northwest and Florida.

In the evening, the channel broadcasts Twilight, an automated loop of weather maps showing current and forecasted weather conditions across the United States and Latin America. Twilight uses a similar graphical look as the National Forecast segment on Pattrn.

On weekends, The Weather Channel en Español airs English longform programming with Spanish subtitles.

Similarly to The Weather Channel, The Weather Channel en Español uses a lower display line that appears at the bottom of the screen during programming to provide current and forecast weather information for select cities across the United States and Latin America.
