The headquarters of The Weather Channel television network are located at 300 Interstate North Parkway SE, Atlanta, Georgia. The network has been based out of its current space since 1996. The network was previously the owner of the building until it was sold to the developers of Pennant Park, an adjacent complex of office buildings, in 2020, making it one of a few tenants in the space. As a result of the sale, the building is currently officially known as 300 Pennant Park.
History
The building at 300 Interstate North Parkway that would later house The Weather Channel was completed in 1968.[1] Prior to its launch in 1982, The Weather Channel began operations at an office space located at 2840 Mt. Wilkinson Parkway, which was located less than 10 minutes away from the network's current location. However, in January 1996, talks among executives of The Weather Channel began with a goal of finding a new building to house the network, which resulted in the space at 300 Interstate North Parkway being chosen as the best option, as it met a requirement of 18-foot ceilings accommodating lighting and other equipment.[2] An $11.2 million deal to acquire the building would be closed in May 1996, and on October 15 of the same year, Landmark Communications officially purchased the building for The Weather Channel. Prior to the network's move into the new building, changes would be made to bring the facility up to code. The network would move into the space at the end of 1996 and began broadcasting from the new studios in early 1997.[3]
The space would be purchased by the developers of the adjacent office complex, Pennant Park, in 2020. The common spaces within the building were renovated sometime shortly after the acquisition.[4]
